Alright can everyone place aside their own opinions as to who is the better Holmes? Each and every actor who has played Holmes has brought something to the character. It is how the show or movie is viewed and who it is viewed by. Brett brought the character’s personality to life along with a quite a few distinctions to the apperance. Other actors have also brought in little traits that have made their Holmes unique.

Doyal might or might not be impressed with any of the people who have played Holmes because he might have visioned somethin else so quit fighting over something so trivial!

  3. HarveyCartwright Says:

The Woman In Green is better than any of the Granad series.

Well, this is a so great video that deserves our appreciation!!!
But pray you stop talking this subject! Jeremy was an angel! Can we love him without badgerring with his sexual approach?!
Do you really think this is a problem in our life? Whoever we choose to love, true emotion is the key point!!!

I’m hardly a sherlockian nor a Brett fan. But WTF does being gay have anything to do with being a good actor? Plus bi doesn’t equal to homo, nobhead!!

AND FYI homophobe is a DEROGATORY term to me. It’s 21st century now and your parents should of taught you to respect people of any sexual orientation. And to talk about people’s sexual orientation in public is shocking lack of manners.

I’m amazed why YT would of let you post these sh*t

Yes,It’s indeed one of the best videos on YouTube,it’s in my favorites.
Who care wasn’t he a homosexual? He is The Sherlock Holmes, unique and only.

  7. HarveyCartwright Says:

It’s not twisted - he was gay.

    Get over it.

One of the best videos on You Tube…

You said :”When you’re gone, you wouldn’t like ur private life being twisted, would you?”
    I so agree with you…

  10. 22omg22 Says:

The fact that no other SH actors get as many jealous jerks as Brett does thoroughly proves Brett is the best Sherlock Holmes ever. He gained most recognition.

Yet you’re entitled to have your opinion. Even so,nobody has right to defame him. Learn to respect the dead, young man. When you’re gone, you wouldn’t like ur private life being twisted, would you?

How do you know what Holmes looks like? No one does. Brett is so much better than Rathbone, at least he was set in the right time period. Holmes isn’t romantic and shouldn’t be portrayed like that (as Rathbone did). Gay or straight, I don’t care but I don’t think Holmes is gay just that he was not interested in women.
    Great Vid by the way!

  12. dalek42 Says:

I find Rathbone dull and just not engaging to be honest, doesn’t have the quirkiness of Holmes, he’s just too suave I think, he doesn’t have the inner…well turmoil that Brett shows so brilliantly.
Rathbone doesn’t have the “Fire and Ice” that Brett had that made his incarnation of Holmes so mesmerising.
I will concede that the Ganada/Brett version of Hound was rather dull and slow moving, but that really can be lived with I think, there is more to Holmes than the Hound of the Baskervilles

  13. HarveyCartwright Says:

Brett may have been the best since Basil, but Basil is still the best. At least he actually looked like Holmes. Nigel Bruce was supposed to be a comedy relief because that was what the scriptwriters wanted. Audiences around the world loved his portrayal and so did Rathbone. In any case, the first two period films show he could have played a more accurate Dr Watson. The 1939 version of The Hound of the Baskervilles was far better than Brett’s slow and dull version.

  14. dalek42 Says:

I ask you, why would a man such as Holmes keep such a bumbling oaf as a friend or companion I mean that’s the problemt with Rathbone’s Holmes, he’s too…sentimental or affectionate, almost a romantic lead, which Holmes should never be
Brett captured the loneliness and sheer brilliance to a tee

  15. dalek42 Says:

“More than any other actor since Basil Rathbone, Mr. Brett was regarded as the quintessential Holmes: breathtakingly analytical, given to outrageous disguises and the blackest moods and relentless in his enthusiasm for solving the most intricate crimes.”
you say Bruce’s Watson was hilarious…I doubt that was the intention of the original character surely

  16. dalek42 Says:

this is a PERFECT example of people just not understanding Brett as a person, chalking it all down to him going “mad” or in your case, being gay (which has yet to be proven I think) and so what? what if he was gay? he still provided the best portrayal of Holmes I frankly think we’ll ever see, I mean read this quote from his obit from the New York Times

  17. HarveyCartwright Says:

Rathbone’s films are far more entertaining, it doesn’t get any better than an hilarious Nigel Bruce as Dr Watson, Henry Daniell as Professor Moriarty, and of course Denis Hoey as Inspector Lestrade. Brett on the other hand was too colourless and dull.

  18. dalek42 Says:

    Oh for crying out loud
Whether you like it or not, irrespective of Brett’s sexuality, his portrayal will always been seen as the definitive.
also you say Brett did not resemble Holmes in the 3rd and 4th seasons (which is odd that you are aware of the particular seasons, what with you seemingly disliking him so much)that is true, but they didn’t plan it that way, I mean I’d like to see you taking on such a deep character when you’re in ill health, mentally and physically.

  19. HarveyCartwright Says:

Yes, I heard the death of his “beard” caused him to go a bit mental.

  20. dalek42 Says:

Brett wasn’t a homosexual….supposedly bisexual however, but even if he was, what on Earth has that got to do with him being a good Holmes or not?, to me and to many, many people he is the definitive, have you heard how he loved his dear “Joaney”? the adoration he felt for that woman was one of deep, heart felt love no two ways about it, you only need to hear how devastated he was by her tragic death to understand it

  21. HarveyCartwright Says:

He made some unfavourable remarks about Nigel Bruce actually.

Aside from being too obviously gay, Brett did not resemble Sherlock Holmes and he was too old and fat in the third and fourth series. Basil rathbone will always be the best.

  22. annafrancesca1 Says:

Jeremy Bret was a brilliant, deep, sensitive, flamboyant, fair, bighearted man with a lot of goods and virtues but…he was also beautiful as no one else!
His stunning beauty and the perfectness of his appearance balanced his excellence and politeness and inteseness on stage, on screen and in true life.
He made Sherlock Holmes alive, not as a simple character from a book, but as a true person.
He respected other actors who performed SH before: so sad to see rough and vulgar comments about him!

  23. bichaneca1 Says:

    Love the music. Thank you.

  24. ColdnessHolmes Says:

Love the music, pictures… everything!!! lol

  25. HarveyCartwright Says:

Jeremy Brett was a homosexual who left his sham marriage with Anna Massey for a succession of men, including Gary Bond.

Jealous of some two-bit TV actor from the 1980s who chain smoked, drank and drugged himself to death at 61? Nah. Rathbone was far better in every way, ps he was VERY homophobic as well.
